CEO Turnover vs. Executive Turnover

Different research shows that, at large US companies, the Executive turnover rate for

    the top five C-level Executives is about the same as the CEO turnover rate.

The CEO turnover rate has a statistically significant effect on the C-level Executive

    turnover rate, especially with an outsider CEO. This suggests that C-level executives’  

    identities are, in part, derived from those around them.

A statistically significant number of C-level Executives obtain new employment after they

    leave the company. On average, the positions they secure elsewhere are inferior to their

    old positions for a variety of metrics, including compensation and firm size. This is

    particularly true for high earners.

Increasingly, Boards play some role in C-level Executives hiring/dismissal decisions.
